Botox Q & A
What is Botox?
Dr. Kolansky uses BOTOXⓇ Cosmetic and DysportⓇ brands of botulinum toxin. Both are injectable medications containing a neurotoxin that temporarily diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face. Botox is FDA-approved to treat moderate-to-severe lines and wrinkles found around your eyes and forehead, specifically your crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines.
Botox is the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatment in the United States. People choose Botox because the treatment only takes a few minutes, and it provides subtle and effective results.
How does Botox work?
Dr. Kolansky expertly injects Botox into specific spots into the facial muscles under your skin. The neurotoxin in the injection then causes a reduction in muscle activity that minimizes the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Over time, your fine lines and wrinkles developed from a combination of factors, including a decrease in collagen production, cellular changes, and free radical damage to your skin. When you squint, frown, or furrow your brow, the muscles under your skin cause the skin to fold. Because of the various changes in the structure of your aging skin, it isn’t able to “bounce back,” and the folding created by the muscle causes the lines, crevices, and wrinkles to form.
With Botox, Dr. Kolansky can stop the muscle movement that causes the formation of lines and wrinkles.
Do Botox injections hurt?
You may feel a slight pinch during your Botox injections. However, Dr. Kolansky is an expert in Botox treatments and does everything he can to minimize your pain during your session, which may include the use of a numbing agent beforehand.
Depending on the area receiving Botox treatments, you may need more than one injection to get the desired results. But the entire process shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.
There’s no downtime following Botox injections. However, Dr. Kolansky recommends you avoid any exercise that may cause you to sweat for at least two hours following your treatment.
You should start to notice an improvement in your look within 24-48 hours after your injections.
How long does Botox last?
Botox injections can keep your lines and wrinkles away for as long as four months. Dr. Kolansky recommends you return to the office for additional injections as soon as you notice the lines and wrinkles returning. Repeat injections may help thin out the muscle under your skin, which may lead to longer-lasting results.
Dr. Kolansky also offers dermal filler injections, and he may suggest you combine Botox and fillers, to get what’s referred to as a liquid facelift, for more dramatic results.
